The sciatic nerve is the largest in the body. It arises from the sacral plexus on either side, passing through the pelvis and down the back of the thigh. Sciatica is a pain that radiates along the sciatic nerve. There are two kinds of sciatica, sciatic neuralgia and sciatic neuritis. Read Testimonials.
Sciatic Neuritis is when the sciatic nerve becomes inflamed from metabolic, toxic or infectious disease.
Sciatic Neuralgia is what most people experience, either from the buttocks down the leg to the foot or just the buttocks and thigh. In severe cases, the pain may be accompanied by numbness or weakness in the affected area.
The most common cause of sciatica neuralgia is misalignment of the lumbar spine or a prolapsed intervertebral disk (this is commonly known as a herniated disk). A herniated disk is a painful disorder of the spine in which an intervertebral disk ruptures and part of its pulpy core protrudes. About 95% of herniated disks occur in the low back.
Both of these structural problems can be corrected with daily use of the BodyBridge.
The BodyBridge is a curved topped passive traction table which decompresses the spine. Each disk can gently separate through passive traction. Once decompression takes place, pressure is taken off the muscle groups in the low, mid and upper back. For those suffering from sciatic pain or a herniated disk, the following is the correct way to use the BodyBridge. Note: since most people are accustomed to bending forward and not backward, there is a transition period which may take place. The BodyBridge teaches your body, over time, to bend backward and release the compression of the intervertebral disk safely.
Step 1. With feet on the floor just lean back on the curved surface of the BodyBridge. The hands may be on your stomach or if it feels right, over your head. This is the "Semi Extension Position" and is easy to do. What you are doing is placing the back in an arched posture in order for your body to become accustomed to a gradual backbend. Note: in this position you are not in passive traction since your feet are on the floor. Let your head rest back on the pad or place a small pillow underneath your head for comfort. Use this position for 3 to 5 minutes.
Step 2. From the "Semi Extension Position" push your self forward and place your feet on the footrest. You should feel a little more of a stretch in this position. Find a comfortable position: you may have to move a little forward but there will be a place where you will feel comfortable. Note: the closer your buttocks are to the footrest, the less pressure you feel in the low back. The closer the buttocks are to the front of the BodyBridge, the more pressure on the low back. As in previous position, use a pillow under head for comfort and keep feet on the footrest. Notice the response in your back and the new areas that are being stretched. This is called the "Extension Position". Take your time and go slowly. You have been bending forward most of your life so give your body time to adjust to bending backward.
Step 3. With feet on footrest (or directly on pad) move your body toward the front of the BodyBridge and notice how your back feels. Once again, in the "Extension Position", you want to find a comfortable position and lie for 1 to 2 minutes (or less). Increase your time on the BodyBridge until you find a time, which is comfortable for you. Example: My maximum time is 5 minutes on the BodyBridge while customers I speak to use it for 15 to 20 minutes. That amount of time would be too much for me. Find the time which works for you. Do not rush and stretch daily to retrain your body. Within a month you will notice a difference in your Sciatica or Herniated Disk condition.
Many of our customers are now pain free because they took the time to retrain their muscles by using the BodyBridge daily. Learn to bend backwards with the BodyBridge and start to regain the flexibility and strength necessary to live a healthy and productive life.
Testimonials"I've been using the BodyBridge for about two months, and when I started, I could lay only 30 seconds on it and then would have to sit up for a minute or two. I continued using it this way, gradually increasing my time on it, until I could lay on it for ten minutes with very little discomfort. When I was in my 30's, I ruptured a disk and have injured my back several times since then.
I am now 76 years old, walk slightly bent over, and have had pain in my back since the disk problem. Since I've used the BodyBridge, the pain has lessened and my wife says that I seem to be walking straighter."
Julius Millert, Kansas City, KS.
"I use the BodyBridge to remedy a scoliosis problem. Five to ten minutes, two to three times a day, loosens up and relaxes my back muscles so I can do my scolinosis exercises. It also reduces a painful sciatica type situation in the lower buttock area."
I. Shatz, Salinas, CA.
"I use the BodyBridge for ten minutes, without fail, every morning. I'm 82 years old and have a herniated disk (lumbar vertebrae 4 and 5) which puts pressure on my sciatic nerve. The pain from this condition used to run down both legs to my ankles, and for four years I was unable to walk one block. My advanced age cancelled out the option of surgery, and I thought I'd have to resign myself to the fact that I.d have to give up walking for any distance.Since I've been using the BodyBridge for the past 3 months, I don't have the pain in my legs and can walk very slowly for short distances. I have always known the value of stretching and exercise, and BodyBridge is number one for my back. The price was fair and a real bargain considering the results I've experienced. I read all the testimonials that came with the product and found they tell the truth & they're not just a sales gimmick. It's a real pleasure to say 'thank you' for something that really works and does so much good."
Joe Kelley, Philadelphia, PA.
"The BodyBridge has been a great benefit to me. Within about the last one and a half years, I've had a herniated disk treated by a Chiropractor. BodyBridge has brought me a lot of relief between my visits to the Chiropractor, and decreased the frequency of those visits too."
Dick Roach, Phillipsburg, NJ.
"In June 1991, I had lower back surgery a ruptured disk between L4 and L5. The BodyBridge was very instrumental inmy recovery. Along with my physical therapy exercises, I used the BodyBridge to stretch my lower back muscles and keep my spine in line so I could heal properly. I'm back at work, driving a truck, and my back is doing fine. I still use the BodyBridge daily and sincerely. I believe that my good recovery was due in part to the BodyBridge, and I recommend it for everyone."
